Awards for AllIn 2009, themomentisnow! received funding to run a project with people with longterm medical conditions, illnesses and disabilities.

The project purpose is to empower a group of people with long term illnesses / disabilities and carers in Medway, who will work creatively with the theme of their lives and illnesses. We will design an illustrated book and show an exhibition of artwork, poems, creative writing and photographs in Medway libraries.

Workshops are taking place in venues in Medway and London from June to February 2010 including:

  • art, drawing, collage, painting

  • creative writing of the stories from the group

  • meditation

  • healing  at workshops and visits to the College of Psychic Studies clinic, London

  • fundraising for the members to plan for new projects

  • help with getting work online created as part fo the project

Taking part is open to anybody who has a health condition (or a carer of somebody who has one). Participants meet people in situations comparable to theirs and will share and learn from the experience and produce some creative work. The exhibition created is open to the general public to view. This will take palce in Chatham Library on 27 March 2010.

Readings will be held in local libraries and the book will be available to borrow. The stories will raise awareness about the health and well-being of people and the way(s) they have adapted lives around illness. We will actively look to recruit volunteers to help us, who will receive training and also the chance to participate creatively in the project.

Our website, created with this grant, will publish our work online and thereby widen the audience. We will show the work in local libraries, where the book will also be available to borrow.

This website has been produced with the help of the group, who received some website training to enable them to upload information for tehir individual pages. We ar ealso providing a gallery for work for the group, and for the support groups available to our members, thereby enabling a wider audience to access our experiences and also to provide a base for future projects.
