Doug Fry

One member of the group, Doug, describes his pain as “my jaw complaint is my alarm clock”, explaining that it wakes him at a certain time. “The pain becomes unbearable when it travels up the facial nerve to the eye. I then get very confused as to the medication that best suits my degree of pain as it could be a sinus problem, or a bout of trigeminal neuralgia.” Doug’s writing is in Chapter 5.  Doug works as an artist and sometimes finds it impossible to work, due to his condition.

My Jaw Condition is my Alarm Clock
Doug Fry

This is a pain condition in the jaw
which has been diagnosed but will only
be cured by operation.
Meanwhile medication is the finest relief
particularly inhalants,
which get into the main facial organs.

Sometimes I have some very low moments.
For instance the pain becomes unbearable
when it travels up the facial nerve to the eye.

I then get very confused as to
The medication that best suits
my degree of pain as it could be
a sinus problem,
or a bout of trigeminal neuralgia.

In fact, another low point is when
extreme seasonal conditions effect my jaw
and prevent my partaking in exhibitions,
as I find it hard getting a body
of work together. This is very much unlike me
but has a major influence on
my art progress.

I have always maintained that
my condition is as much about relief as
the very pain itself.
My pain could be identified as intermittent
but I openly admire, those unlike myself,
who are victims of constant pain.
Of the few pieces of advice I could possibly offer one
would be to immerse oneself into activities to take the mind
